Here Comes the Sun

Ok, I decided that today was going to be different. I woke up, took advantage of the hubs, made a big breakfast, bought coffee and fruit for the office. I'm bound and determined to see the sun, be the sun and embrace the sun!

Really, the choice I have is to wallow and feel crappy. Or look on the bright side of things and be happy.

Today, it's a sunny day (even though it isn't outside.) I know that things might not change overnight, but I'm arming myself with positivity!

Enjoy the musical sunshine of George Harrison

Unease

There's something in the air. I don't know what it is, but something is coming.

I know too many people that have relatives that are in the hospital. I've been feeling off and something isn't quite right. And to top it off the weather has gone bat shit crazy.

Do you feel it? Is it just typical February gloom or is it something else?

Captain Eo

When I was a little girl (7) my parents took my brother and I on a quick vacation trip to Disneyland. While there we went to Tomorrowland and saw the 3-D movie they had showing. Captain Eo!!!! I don't remember much about the movie, only that it had Michael Jackson in it with some Muppet type characters. And that I kept trying to grab things that looked as though they were floating towards me.

In fact, a few years ago I bought the very poster that's pictured here. I should probably get it framed.

Well, those of you that never got to see it, or like me want to relive your childhood. Disneyland is re-releasing the movie. Apparently it started a few days ago.

And if, for some reason, you can't make it over/down/up/etc to Sunny Cali, you can watch it (albeit in regular vision) here.

My Love/Hate Relationship....

with a snow plow.

Okay, I'm all for the majestic beauty of freshly fallen snow. I mean come on... look at this gorgeous picture. All Mid-westerners have seen such beauty. But alas, all too often it turns into this icky, gray, slush crap. Which is why I hate February so much. I get my snow fill about January 4th. Then I'm done. I want no part of it. Ugh! Though, let me tell you, it's very pretty when it snows so much that I don't have to go to work! Alas, such was not the case yesterday.

I decided to skate out of work early. Thinking I could go home and relax a bit, maybe work out on the stationary bike for a bit, watch some olympics and have dinner ready for Hubs and the Wee One when they got home.

Yeah, not so much. When I got home I discovered the the lovely snow plow that oh so wonderfully cleared the roads, cleared them right into my driveway. So, now I'm hoping that I can make it into the garage, yes I've gotten stuck in my driveway more times than I care to admit. Luckily, I was in the SUV so I was okay. The sedan wouldn't have a chance.

Of course, all thoughts of relaxation flew out the window. I had quite the task of snow clearing in front of me.

To make a long story short, I cleared the driveway of all the wet, sloppy, gray, icky mess in just under an hour. Made dinner. And took a nice toasty, relaxing shower. All before 7pm last night.

Quite the productive afternoon, and yes, I did get my workout in. But could we please, please be done with the snow?!?!?!

Lent

I know I should have posted this yesterday, but oh well. I'm posting it today.

Now, I know many of you know that I am not Catholic, however I do observe Lent. Albeit not in the traditional way. I do it to see if I can. It's a matter of willpower for me. This year, I'm giving up sweets....unless I've already worked out a half hour before. And that's a half hour for each sweet. Again, I realize this isn't a traditional thing. But it's a way for me to eat healthier, and possibily work out more. Granted, once my training for the 3-day Walk starts I'll have no problem here.

So, do you celebrate Lent? I saw a great history piece on Domestic Witch's blog today. And in my research on the history of Lent found out that many Christian denominations don't follow it, primarily for two reasons.

1. It's not in the Bible.
2. It was originally a Pagan holiday/idea.

I'm surprised at the latter since they most definitely celebrate Christmas and we all know that Christ wasn't born on Dec. 25th.

Stats you can't do without...

The
population of this country is 300 million.

160
million are retired.

That leaves 140 million to do the work.

There are 85 million in school.

Which leaves 55 million to do the work.

Of this there are 35 million employed by the federal government.

Leaving 20 million to do the work.

2.8 million are in the armed forces preoccupied with killing Osama Bin-Laden.

Which leaves 17.2 million to do the work.

Take from that total the 15.8 million people who work for state and city Governments. And that
leaves 1.4 million to do the work.

At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals.

Leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.

Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.

That leaves just two people to do the work.

You and me.

And there you are,

Sitting on your ass,

At your computer or smart phone, reading jokes.

Nice. Real nice.

You Bettah Werk!!!!

Cue the music!

Covergirl....put the bass in your walk....head. to. toe. make your whole body talk....

I am so excited one of my favorite shows is back for Season 2! Yep, RuPaul's back to find America's Next Drag Superstar.

I love this show. It's like (America's Next Top Model + Project Runway) dipped in Drag = RuPaul's Drag Race.

LOVE IT!!!

You can watch the entire first season or the second season on Tuesdays (after Monday's viewing on TV)

At least check out a promo or two. It's a blast to watch. Especially to see all the transformations. You get to see each contestant in and out of drag. So to see these men become beautiful women is amazing! Just goes to show how much they want this, since they put so much time into looking FABULOUUUUS!

Lazy Sunday Movie: Groundhog Day

In honor of our recent holiday...Groundhog Day. A paltry holiday to some. A modern interpretation of another holiday (Imbolc) to others.

Anywho, we get this funny movie that takes place on Groundhog Day. Bill Murray plays Phil Connors a sarcastic, narcistic weatherman who goes to Punxsutawney, PA to celebrate Punxsutawney Phil - The Weather Predicting Groundhog.

SPOILERS BELOW!!!!

While there he keeps reliving the same day over and over again. He tries to kill himself and succeeds many times, but then wakes up again and again. So now he tries to get Andie MacDowell (Rita) to fall in love with him. But it doesn't work. So finally he tries to just enjoy it, becomes a virtuoso jazz pianist, learns how to ice sculpt, and tries to help out everyone in the city. Turns out that's the way to not only having Rita fall in love with him, but he ends up breaking the cycle. He has the ultimate day. Now some may see this as a simple love story. I see it as a man who is in desperate need for a personality overhaul. His first idea at the thought of reliving the same day is to kill himself. Numerous times. Talk about needing a new outlook on life.

I think the point of the movie was that he needed to become a better person. And the benefit to him was by becoming a better man not only is he happier, but he is now open to love and able to get the love he wants.

Superbowl Madness

Do you watch the superbowl? Are you a football or commercial junkie?

Usually, I just watch for the commercials. Give up halfway through and go to bed while the rest records. Then I fast forward through the game and watch the commercials.

Not this year. I am going to "try" to watch the whole thing. I'll need a vat of coffee on Monday morning, but I am bound and determined to do this.

Why you ask? I am in charge of a Superbowl Square grid. I have worked hard to sell almost all the squares. (Any unsold squares are "3-day" squares and any winnings go towards my walk.) In fact, I think this fundraiser has been one of the best and somewhat easiest fundraisers ever!!! Plus, the only way I can really get into the game is if I have money riding on it.

So what are your superbowl plans?

****Edit: I just sold the last 10 squares! Boo ya!****

Back in Black

I think I'm finally able to get back into my groove of writing on this blog again. Man oh man was January a rough month. I'm hoping that the rest of the year will be smooth sailing now.

Let's see what the cards have to say.

First card: Knave of Swords. To me he's become adept at keeping the sword pointing away from himself. He can balance it in the air without causing damage to himself or others. I'm hoping that I've learned what I need to have learned last month and can finally move forward. (With this lesson in my pocket.)

Second card: Magician. He's back. Reminding me to teach myself that I have everything I need to move forward. And to teach my daughter what to do when it feels as though the world has thrown so many curve balls it's difficult to keep everything afloat. (He brings me a bit of relief too since he's my birth card.)

Third card: Temperance. She's back again. This time in the upright position. She's telling me that I'm back to normal. I'm back to my usual trend of seeing all sides to an issue. And not being tricked by the flying fish.

I'm happy to see the cards are reflecting my new found relief. Man oh man has it been long time. I'm ready to see what February has to bring.
